How To Embrace Yourself Without Any Pretensions

Q. In your website you write, “Our first relationship is with ourselves. Our relationships with others reflect how we see and treat ourselves.” It’s not uncommon for us to lose ourselves in due course of time- sometimes losing ourselves in confusion and chaos, sometimes losing ourselves due to lack of guidance and help, sometimes losing ourselves in toxic relationships and sometimes losing ourselves in the everyday busyness and monotony of life. And some suffer from emotional wounds from childhood and may never known who they really are. How do you go about discovering yourself and embrace yourself without any pretensions?

I use expressive arts – the language of feelings, the body, intuition, creativity and the inner child – to help people discover their true self. These languages do not lie. They access parts of the self that are not readily accessible through left brain language and thought. We get to where the truth lies – in our innate inner knowing. Journaling with art and writing is one of the best ways to find the inner self. I have found that a regular practice of expressing feelings, reflecting on ones life, experiences, values and dreams is essential to finding the true self. My books The Creative Journal, The Art of Emotional Healing, The Power of Your Other Hand and Recovery of Your Inner Child spell out how this is done. They all feature drawing (and art) and writing with both hands for healing and finding the true self.
